It's been a while since Vampire Weekend has released a new album. Everybody's favorite ultra-preppy, Paul-Simon's-Graceland aping band has not dropped a new full record since 2013's Modern Vampires of the City. It was a solid album, which is how you could describe all three of their releases, to be fair.
They certainly have a distinct sound in the current music landscape, and they know their way around a catchy tune, but nothing of theirs has ever stuck out as being particularly jaw-dropping. Still, their fans, both diehard and casual, have probably been wondering when they will get around to releasing something new. Well, the band gave an update recently that makes it seem like the album may be arriving soon.
The update came via a Reddit page dedicated to the band. A fan asked how far along the album is, to which the band replied "94.5%." This comes after frontman Ezra Koenig declared the album "80%" finished in September 2017. So in about eight to nine months Vampie Weekend completed 14.5 percent of their album. If they continue at the same pace, it seems like it might be out later in 2018. Or maybe they will hunker down and get it ready before summer ends.
The longest break between albums previously for Vampire Weekend was three years, but it's understandable things have taken longer this time around. After finishing Modern Vampires, Rostam Batmanglij left the group, which has assuredly shaken things up. This will be the band's first outing as a trio. We should find out how that sounds soon.
