Turf Meadow – After EP
Portland, Maine dream-pop outfit Turf Meadow will release their EP, entitled After, on June 30. Still, it’s now available on Bandcamp, which contains absolutely no info on the band. So I’m not sure if Turf Meadow is one person or five or six people.
Google provides no information gen, either. So we’ll go with the music, which is excellent.
After encompasses three-tracks, starting off with “William,” which opens on bright percolating synths flowing into varicolored rippling textures. Haunting vocals glide overhead, infusing the lyrics with wistful timbres floating on gossamer tones. Blushes of new wave tinctures surfaces suffuse the tune with tantalizing wisps.
I love the way the song culminates, featuring the plump bassline.
“Aftermath” travels on darker colors of metallic sensibility, imbuing the song with almost spectral flavors. A fat, round bassline pervades the rhythm, along with tight, crisp percussion, while the jangly guitars, austere by oh so delicious, inject melancholic atmospheric pressure. The vocals progress on dreamy filaments. I love the way the song culminates, featuring the plump bassline.
“Olivia” glitters and shivers on gleaming colors, sparkling with twinkling accents, while the melody rides atop a softly driving, thumping rhythm.
Lizzy – Perfect World EP
From Montreal, Quebec comes dream-pop outfit Lizzy & The Fanatics, who just released a new EP, called Perfect World.
According to their Bandcamp page, “Lizzy writes, records and produces dreamy head-in-the-clouds pop songs with raw feels, nostalgic synths, guitars, and a dash of sparkle out of her Montreal home. Influenced by ‘80s and ‘90s indie-pop, as well as top of the chart hits, Lizzy combines DIY ethics with pop hooks. Lizzy performs on stage with the Fanatics.”
The EP contains six tracks. Entry points include “Far Away,” featuring hazy jingly-jangly colors, radiant and softly aglow with shimmering textures. Lizzy voice, exotically-flavored yet alluring and sensuous, fills the lyrics with creamy timbres. This is a gorgeous song.
On Perfect World, Lizzy generates dazzling, luscious flows of harmonics, capped by her angelic luminous voice upon cashmere shades.
“Middle Child” exudes hints of new wave guitars accompanied by lustrous synths, while Lizzy’s mesmerizing voice coasts above, imbuing the lyrics with brightness. “It’s Okay” rides on low-slung throbbing rhythmic pulses, as Lizzy’s scrummy tones bathe the lyrics in velvety, coruscating blankets of pigmentation.
“Je voudrais voir la mer,” sung in French, is gloriously shrouded in iridescent hues, dripping with an easy intimacy, while “Staring At Clouds” undulates on streams of lightly swelling coloration.
