TRICK SHOOTER SOCIAL CLUB RELEASES “DON’T SETTLE ME DOWN”
Chicago-based roots-rock outfit Trick Shooter Social Club recently released their new single, “Don’t Settle Me Down,” a track lifted from their EP, Monte Carlo, via The Animal Farm label.
Put together by Larry Liss and Steve Simoncic, Trick Shooter Social Club comprises eight members. The band has dropped three albums – Everything That Rises, Generator, and American Experiment.
Talking about the band’s genesis, Steve Simoncic told The Total Scene’s Eric Schelkopf, “Larry and I had been in another band that broke up. We found ourselves getting together in a basement studio in Lakeview writing these really simple acoustic songs - just shaping the songs and stories over a few months. At some point, the material started to take shape and we decided to grow the project. We very consciously decide not to create a traditional band - four guys staring at their shoes.”
Citing influences such as Social Distortion, Jack White, Cash, Kiss, Tom Petty, Wilco, and Steve Earle, Trick Shooter Social Club’s sound blend elements of country, rock, pop, punk, and blues into delicious working-class rock.
Imaginative and gorgeously arranged, “Don’t Settle Me Down” blends sublime leitmotifs of smooth harmonics into an alluring song.
The band has shared the stage with Peggy Young and the Survivors, along with performing at L.A.’s Whiskey a Go-Go, London’s The Hippodrome, and Chicago’s House of Blues, Club Metro, and Lincoln Hall.
“Don’t Settle Me Down” opens on creamy colors flowing into an alt-country-flavored melody featuring a drawling violin as a rich, female voice travels overhead, later joined by another luscious voice creating a warm, velvety harmony. A glossy bridge precedes the entry of a dazzling bluesy guitar, imbuing the tune with lush, sweltering tones.
A piano-infused breakdown shifts the harmonics to a swashbuckling folk-rock melody sizzling with hints of alt-rock energy.
