TEROUZ RADIATES CONSUMING PASSION ON ‘BURN’

One of the premier male vocalists extant is back with his latest single, “Burn.” He performs under his surname – Terouz.

According to Terouz, when first written, “Burn” was “politically charged … born from a place of anger and despair in 2015 when I heard about the Charlie Hebdo incident. The lyric ‘’some things are foul, but no one deserves to burn, popped into my head.”

Terouz goes on, adding, “Heavily influenced by my girlfriend at the time, she blasted me for it, demanding I write about love instead, explaining that people want passion instead. And so I began to envision a couple holding each other in an incinerating flame, changing that initial lyric to “some tame the fire, but some fires deserve to burn.”

Born in Cairo, Karim Terouz relocated to Montreal back in 2008, where he initially fronted his award-winning folk-rock outfit The Rising Few, followed by shifting in a new direction – electro-pop, combining dance hall rhythms and synths to form a retro-flavored alternative sound he describes as “Hypno-noir.”

It’s a grand voice, conjuring up memories of David Bowie’s avant-garde textures blended with the raw eroticism of the aforementioned Chris Isaak.

Turn Up The Volume’s JL, talking about “Burn,” recently wrote: “Despite the fact that BURN is nestled in darkwave territory you will be overwhelmed by inflammable love and lust. Burning love as Elvis once sang. This insanely guitar-synth banger is pushed all the way by a thumping heartbeat drone. Unstoppable, charged up, and highly propelling.”

“Burn” opens on a gleaming guitar flowing into a driving rhythm akin to the luscious sensual alt-rock of Chris Isaak, only more impelling and less dreamy. Background harmonies accent Terouz’s voice with quaking tones reminiscent of Ennio Morricone’s Spaghetti Western music.

The highlight on the track is Terouz’s erogenous voice, investing the lyrics with delicious surging energy and palpable risqué colors, simultaneously reckless and impulsive. It’s a grand voice, conjuring up memories of David Bowie’s avant-garde textures blended with the raw eroticism of the aforementioned Chris Isaak. The result drips with oozing layers of exotic hues, aflame with passion, and aching desire.

“Burn” exudes a psycho-somatic aura of lethal emotions, each stridently asserting vitality and visceral throbbing tumescence.
