A five-piece band, Tainted Black likes “to take chances and explore the lore of true hard rock and is inspired by classic acts such as Metallica, Black Sabbath, Guns N’ Roses, and AC/DC, among others.”

Formed in 2011, in a town called Tumba by drummer Alexander Karlsson, who’d traveled through emotional hell and back, Tainted Black took shape slowly, adding one member at a time: Johan Hörnqvist (lead guitar), Johan Ohlson (rhythm guitar), Tobias Giertz (bass), and Jesper Hember (vocals).

Once the lineup was set, Tainted Black began performing live shows, including an appearance at Emergenza Fest, where they placed third. Ready to hit the studio on a limited budget, the band quickly learned recording and production skills, laying down tracks in their rehearsal space.

According to Karlsson, "We are very proud of this album; it feels like it became the perfect statement of what this band is all about. It is dynamic, heavy, and has enough diversity to show our creative side."

A crying guitar bridge leads to heavy tough coloration from brawny guitars, as Karlsson’s pummeling drums align the rhythm with Jovian power.

“Nirvana” opens on a low-slung elegant guitar, followed by tight accents from the lead guitar, and then Hember’s deliciously rasping voice, emanating dark melancholic tones. A crying guitar bridge leads to heavy tough coloration from brawny guitars, as Karlsson’s pummeling drums align the rhythm with Jovian power.

A searing guitar solo sends the harmonics careening toward the brink of the sonic abyss, pushing out incandescent licks, charring the atmosphere, as the rhythm guitar groans and grinds with hefty textures.

Hember’s potent tones, both melodic and delectably scraping, conjure up comparisons to Chris Cornell with the edgy grating timbres of James Hetfield, only a bit more resonant and electrifying.

“Breaking barriers healing interiors / Crushing all shots of denial / Search it, find it, no purpose to hide it / It’s in your grasp reach out and take it.”

The video, directed by Sebastian Forssman, shot in black and white, depicts the band in their rehearsal space, as they narrate a tale of turbulent emotions, including overwhelming pain – a pain subdued only by the anesthetizing effect of alcohol and explosive fury.

On “Nirvana,” Tainted Black forges a sonic rampart of gravity and solidity, pumping out muscular harmonics chockfull of ferocious dominance.
