Acclaimed Indy artist Sallie Ford announces new show at Sacramento’s Karma Loft for the first Karma Loft show sponsored by Rawckus Magazine and the last tour stop by Ford. The show is slated to have an intimate vibe with stories from Ford and her band about the creative process behind the songs and tales from the European and US tour they are just completing.
Ford and her band are coming off her European tour dates that included Germany, France and The Netherlands and wrapping up the American portion of the tour that comprised of shows in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Chicago.
Her second solo album Soul Sick was released on Vanguard Records and premiered via Paste Magazine and includes the singles “Get Out” “Middle Child” and “Failure.”
She gave some insight about the record:
"This is a 'confessional' album. It's about struggling with my issues - some that I've overcome and some that I still carry around. I felt confused, down about life and unsure of myself," says Ford. "On these new songs, it felt good to write on one theme and from one place. All in all, Soul Sick has taught me a lot about myself and helped me to heal."
Paste Magazine has this to say about the recording.
"In addition to the deeply relatable concept and lyrics of Soul Sick, the album perfectly displays Ford's unfiltered vocals and retro rock sound. If you need a reason to fall in love with Sallie Ford, Soul Sick gives you 11."
Our own Selena San Felice reviewed the album.
“Sallie Ford’s Soul Sick is an album you’ll want on vinyl. The Portland rocker’s second solo project is a bouncy garage surf record soaked in depressed nostalgia. Soul Sick is filled with classic rock ‘70s and ‘80s sounds, blending sweet sadness perfectly—like taking a picnic to a cloudy day at an empty beach. Simply tapping the play button and popping in headphones just won’t do it justice. Ford’s sepia sounds are worth dropping a needle onto.”
The show is upstairs at the new Karma Loft at Karma Brew downtown Sacramento 1530 16th St. 7-9pm May 1st. Limited seating and event will likely sell out. Tickets are on sale through the Eventbrite portal below and Rawckus Magazine Facebook.
