Indie rocker Ryan Chernin recently released “Look Right,” taken from his debut EP, You Know Who You Are.

The making of You Know Who You Are spanned an entire year, not because of difficulties, but because Chernin wanted to get it right.
“What was most important to us was to take our time with it and really make sure it was perfect every step of the way,” Chernin explains. “It was about selecting the right people.” The right people embraced producer John Eugenio, Chris Davies doing the mixing, and guitarist Jared Scharff from SNL.
Chernin’s initiation into music began with the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” that his mother played in the car for him. It wasn’t long before he was imploring his parents for piano lessons. Later, while in college, Chernin studied film and acting, but found investing himself in his roles slightly discomfiting. Whereas when he’s singing, he’s not playing a part, he’s himself.
As Chernin puts it, “It’s me up there. It’s my pain, my happiness. It’s all out there and it’s very vulnerable.”
Chernin’s voice is custom-made for pop-rock, exuding tantalizing timbres, warm quixotic tones, and captivating sonic flair.
“Look Right” opens on a tasty pop-rock melody with an infectious groove provided by crisp percussion and a fat, slapping bass line. The feel and mood of the tune is upbeat, alluring, and charismatic, with hints of bubbly tropical flavors flowing through it, as Chernin’s velvety falsetto glides deliciously atop the harmonics.
Swirling synths exude sparkling colors flowing on gleaming surfaces. A wistful breakdown shifts the tune to smoldering pop-noir, prior to ramping back up to scrumptious pop-laced savors. On the chorus, the harmonics radiate the quintessential lifeblood of pop, vibrant colors attended by smoothly texture harmonies, and expansive resonance.
