Sweden’s trance metal/melodic death metal trio Rage Of Light will unchain a new album on March 29, via Napalm Records. It’s called Imploder.
Rage Of Light is the brainchild of Jonathan Pellet (vocals, keyboards), who once upon a time played with Trophallaxy/Dysrider. Pellet conceived of the idea in 2007. However, because of other commitments, the project didn’t come to fruition until 2015, when Pellet recruited Melissa Bonny (vocals) and Noe Schupbach (guitar). Imploder is the band's first full-length LP.
The band dropped their debut EP, Chasing A Reflection, in 2016, followed by two singles in 2017: “Mechanicals,” and a cover of Amon Amarth’s song “Twilight Of The Thunder God.” The following year, they released two singles and videos, “I Can, I Will,” and a cover of Lady Gaga’s “Judas.” Shortly thereafter, Rage Of Light signed with Napalm Records and went to work on material for Imploder.
Bonny’s voice takes on sublime sonority on this track, backed by radiant vocal harmonies.
Imploder comprises 11-tracks. Entry points include “Enraged,” which opens on heavy guitars and seething synths flowing into a melodic death metal melody that transitions from soft, elegant sections to muscular raging streams of energy. Bonny’s dulcet voice, crystalline and powerful, shifts from creamy melodicism to demonic snarls.
“Fallen” features stuttering, thick guitars and blazing drum fills topped by Bonny’s growling tones accompanied by velvety tones, as she moves from melodic to fiendish. A searing solo fragment, full of incandescent guitar licks and pummeling Thor-like drums, rockets the tune to another realm.
The title track opens on trilling synths, followed by surging guitars and rumbling drums. The combination of shimmering guitars and gleaming synths infuses the tune with two distinct layers that eventually flow into a strident industrial grind. “Mechanicals” rides a heavy industrial aura during the intro, and then segues into hypertrophic grimaces of guitars, drums, and glowing synths. Bonny’s voice takes on sublime sonority on this track, backed by radiant vocal harmonies.
Imploder juxtaposes glistening trance textures with potent death metal surfaces, filling the music with power and elegance.
