QUEEN QUAIL DROPS DELICIOUS ‘QQ’
“Dreamy guitar pop out of Berlin, Germany” conveys the music of Kirstin Edwards, aka Queen Quail, whose new album QQ blends classical textures with silky dream-pop.
Written and produced at home by Queen Quail, the album was mixed by Kirstin and mastered at Biolab Studio in Berlin. The album’s artwork “features a photo of her Great-Great-Grandfather and a font based on her Grandma's calligraphy.”
Queen Quail’s genesis took place in the botanical gardens in Berlin, when Kirstin stumbled upon a “Zwergwachtel,” or dwarf quail. The “tiny bird’s quiet focus struck Kirstin – and seemed to reflect her own shy, though energetic, nature.”
Since that moment, Kirstin, a native of Wisconsin, has utilized the name Queen Quail “to foster her artistry and carefully unveil her inner world.” Growing up near Lake Michigan, a cellist by training, Kirstin’s music often mirrors the coloration and aura of still water. In 2017, she relocated to Berlin, Germany, a city whose élan and passion inspires her.
Gracious with the effluvium of introspective indulgence, the exquisite voice of Queen Quail imbues QQ with unrelenting mysterious and yummy piquancy.
Describing her music, Queen Quail shares, “Reverberating guitar riffs and chilling vocals fill the open spaces of her songs with a haunting beauty – one grown out of deep introspection, a desire to understand, and the search for inner truth.”
What sets Queen Quail’s music apart is its amalgamation of classical, almost concerto-like flavors with extended metaphorical savors of dream-pop. The incredible technique of her harmonic genius merges pressure, sound, and tonal radiance into luminous sonic rumors, nuanced and rife with effulgent subtleties.
Encompassing nine-tracks, entry points, from a purely subjective standpoint, include “The Lady In the Light,” opening on elegant glittering colors flowing into ethereal vocals, waiflike yet potently alluring. “I Don’t Want to Die” travels on shimmering sparkles of soft hues, topped by creamy classical vocals backed by gently glowing harmonies.
“Water,” a personal favorite, ripples with polished platinum tints of colors, as pearl-esque lustrous harmonies deliver delicate shimmering layers of peaceful echoes.
