PROSPECTIVE RELEASE ‘AGAINST ALL ODDS’
On December 5, Italian progressive metalcore outfit Prospective released the music video for “Against All Odds,” the third single from their forthcoming album, All We Have, slated to drop January 17, 2020, via Long Branch Records.
A potent muscular song, “Against All Odds” blends djent elements with metalcore tropes: crushing breakdowns, open riffs, and good cop/bad cop vocals.
Made up of Pietro Serratore (vocals), Luca Zini (lead guitar, vocals), Davide Ruggeri (guitar), Stefano Baldanza (bass), and Flavio Cacciari (drums), Prospective erupted on the metalcore scene with the release of Beyond, followed by Unreal, which immediately took the fourth spot on iTunes’ Metal Chart, and was followed by ‘The Unreal Tour,’ across Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic.
Prospective has shared the stage with The Algorithm, Exist Immortal, Uneven Structure, Betraying The Martyrs, Northlane, Oceans Ate Alaska, Hacktivist, Novelists, LANDMVRKS, and Dreamshade.
Cicciari’s stuttering double-bass highlights the stammering dynamics of the guitars, infusing the tune with raw burly dynamics.
In 2019, the band embarked on ‘The Back Home Italian Tour,’ hitting cities in Italy they’d never played before. One week after the tour finished, they signed with Long Branch Records, followed by performances at Euroblast and Germany’s LBR Summerfest.
“Against All Odds” opens on brawny djent guitars riding a fat rumbling bassline and powerful percussion from Cacciari, whose double-bass pedals inject the cadence with thick pummeling muscle. Serratore’s raging vocals fill the lyrics with fulminating rasping textures. When the harmonics assume a melodic flow, his voice delivers delicious mellifluous timbres.
“This is against all odds / I am the only one / I am alive / And because of the truth / I’m now on my own / I have to run and finally see the sun.”
I love the rolling snare drum prior to the hefty surge of guitars forming a kind of quasi-tumescent breakdown cum solo section. Cicciari’s stuttering double-bass highlights the stammering dynamics of the guitars, infusing the tune with raw burly dynamics.
Prospective has it going on! Their sound is impulsive, reckless, and ferociously contagious, pulsing with fulsome sonic punch.
