Bassist Derek Burle explains the mood and feel of the album, “You know when you’re in the shower and you want to turn the water as hot as you possibly can, and when it starts to burn you, you lower it a little bit? That’s what I want people to feel with this record.”

Made up of Aidan Ward (guitar, vocals), Ben Einstein (piano, vocals), Lindsay Alexis (trombone, vocals), Derek Burle (basss), Taylor Moxon (drums), Van Goat’s sound blends punk, swing, ragtime, Southern jazz, and surf savors into music not only sui generis, but magnetically infectious.

“Dry Me Out” opens on tight bluesy guitar riffs topped by Ward’s rasping, sumptuous voice flowing into a sinuously oozing melody exuding swing, ragtime, and jazz blues flavors. Ward’s deliciously wicked tones infuse the tune with a skintight sensuality atop a muscular rhythm, as caterwauling vocal harmonies fill the tune with delectable dripping colors.

Alexis’ trombone projects supple gliding hues of almost unctuous essence, suave and smooth, yet blatantly erogenous.

“Oh dry me out / Wet me again / This is the strangest place that I have ever been / You got the land / All colonized / From coast to coast with folks like you and I / Do you get scared / When they come to your land? / Do ya? Do ya? Do ya?  / Then nothing goes to waste / The ocean's big / Gives you the creeps / But you still don’t know no secrets of the deep.”

The surging foreboding feel of “Dry Me Out” conjures up scrumptiously thrilling visions of Cruella de Vil entering a nightclub with her entourage in tow. Tall, straight, and slender, with skin as pale and thin as paper, arched coal-black eyebrows, and those cocaine eyes taking in everything all at once – translate the visuals to music, and “Dry Me Out” is the result.

“Dry Me Out” is simultaneously cool, sexy, and slightly ominous, full of mesmerizing textures, a potent rhythm, and marvelous vocal harmonies.
