Tex blends Americana and electronica into a sound he calls “Americonica,” merging sleek tech with traditional instruments on a matrix of timeless song structure, thus giving his music an elusive familiarity along with a modern-day cutting edge, unlike anything else.

According to Tex, “Nothing turns me on quite like getting a whacked-out break-beat looped under a pedal steel.”

The genesis of Tex’s unique sound took place in Baltimore, where he grew up surrounded by alternative hip-hop and hardcore punk. As he probed deeper into the music, he started fusing roots music with hi-tech production, resulting in a complex neo-folk bluesy sound vaguely reminiscent of Phosphorescent and Flaming Lips.

Later, he played and sang with various bands in NYC and DC. As his talent, skills, and confidence expanded, he began performing his original material, followed by hooking up with producer Dave Nachodsky at Invisible Sound Studios to lay down tracks for Moonshot, which in part delves into the power of memories and the transience of human beings.

The thick depth of the rhythm imbues the tune with hip-hop-lite gestures, as Pink Floyd-like vocal harmonies infuse the harmonics with juvenile timbres.

Describing the sensation Tex says, “Nostalgia can linger like ghosts in your psyche. But I wouldn’t consider these reflections morbid...these days I’m swimming in gratitude.”

“Soft Blue Lights” opens on gentle shimmering guitars flowing into a gleaming melody suffusing Americana and electro-alt-pop savors, as well as hints of dreamy alt-rock, surf-rock, and yacht-rock. The thick depth of the rhythm imbues the tune with hip-hop-lite gestures, as Pink Floyd-like vocal harmonies infuse the harmonics with juvenile timbres.

Tex’s deliciously raspy voice, betwixt and between tenor and baritone, injects darker, melancholic tones traveling on pensive psychedelic filaments, oozing undulating colors awash in misty sonic hues, simultaneously swishing and rippling.

On “Soft Blue Lights,” Tex Moonlight brandishes his unparalleled sound, rife with a smorgasbord of delectable flavors, and his beguiling voice.
