Made up of Adam Vasko, Anthony Bello, Mark Jackovic, Mark Ondrey, and Nick Bello, the band’s members come from varied musical backgrounds, reflecting a montage of stylistic influences, including rock, jazz, and funk. Blending these elements together, yet keeping the music down-to-earth and visceral is the earmark of Slam Band and Sam.

Inspired by Jimi Hendrix, “Jimi Was” offers interconnected surface colors, sophisticated musicianship, and an assertive hard-hitting rhythm, along with potent passion into a compelling tune with evocative vocals, turbulent guitars, and dazzling brass coloration.

“Jimi Was” drips with scrumptious funk aromas chock-full of beaucoup down-and-dirty rock savors, all capped by the yummy grating tones of Adam Vasko.

“Jimi Was” opens on a funk-powered beat topped by sleazy guitars, a fat popping bassline, and a braying saxophone. As the melody establishes itself, skiffing guitars give the tune tight links of metallic color. On the chorus, the harmonics ramp up to heavy funked-out bluesy flavors and grand shimmers of brass. Adam Vasko’s raw, rasping voice infuses the lyrics with supercharged tones, simultaneously sensuous and primeval.

“Jimi was a voodoo child.”

A blistering guitar solo imbues the tune with gooey wah-wah effects and then flows into the brass solo section backed by rumbling drums. Delicious layering, unpretentious yet fluently arranged, imbues the tune with thrilling dynamism.
