ONE TWO TEN RELEASE ENERGETIC ‘HEATHERS’

Oklahoma City’s pop-rock outfit One Two Ten recently released “Heathers,” a song about a girl living life to the fullest, but who may have lived life a touch too much.

One Two Ten’s frontman Andrew May explained the song’s inspiration to Chandler Elliott: “I had this lyric, ‘Heather’s on holiday’ that came to me in the middle of the night. I was inspired by the characters from the movie Heathers; how they had strong personalities that made them unique. That inspiration was also infused with a strong love for my girlfriend’s character and her unmatched personality.”

Made up of Andrew May (vocals, keyboards), Spencer Christian (lead guitar), Evan Burgess (bass), Jon Edmund (drums), and Stinson Fuller (guitar), the band’s name was borrowed from May’s uncle, who created a road trip game that simultaneously quizzed and developed May’s knowledge of music. The band took the game’s original name, One to Ten, and altered it just a bit to demonstrate the array of stylistic influences on their sound, a sound radiating elements of ‘50’s retro rock, along with savors of ’90’s punk punch.

The feel and surging energy of the chorus delivers shimmering colors, as delicious vocal harmonies brim with bright vibrant tones.

Citing specific influences such as Walk the Moon, Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Hippo Campus, One Two Ten’s music has been featured everywhere, including CBS’ PGGA Golf Tournament in April. In 2017, the band released The Good in Everybody, a five-track EP, followed by 2019’s full-length album, Hurry Up & Wait, covering topics like heartbreak, love, loss, and letting go of the past.

“Heathers” opens on glowing retro-flavored gang-vocals backed by a glinting surf-rock-laced guitar and then flows into a driving, gleaming pop-rock melody full of sparkling guitars and a hefty pulsing rhythm. The feel and surging energy of the chorus delivers shimmering colors, as delicious vocal harmonies brim with bright vibrant tones.

“I used to know a girl with some velvet sneakers / And all the boys and girls they would hide or seek her / She was a revolutionary with her diamonds and her scars / A trend setter better and she had been set apart / From everybody else around she had to get out of this town / She stayed up on the coast but she loves you the most.”

“Heathers” is excellent, full of traditional rock aromas amalgamated with tasty pop-punk zest, all capped by blooming vocal harmonies.
