OCEAN HILLS LIGHT IT UP ON ‘DEATH OR LIBERTY’
Meet Ocean Hills, the new project/band founded by Zoli Téglás, who recently released the music video for “Death or Liberty.”
Zoli explains the song, saying, "’Death Or Liberty’ is about never giving up, and to just keep going, no matter the obstacles."
After fronting melodic hardcore outfit Ignite, as well as the Misfits and Pennywise, Zoli left Ignite to pursue his other interests, alt-rock music, and animal rescue. Multi-talented, he’s also an accomplished actor, appearing in Terminator: Dark Fate, The Alienist, Spectral, Tyrant, and Argo 2.
Along with Zoli (vocals), Ocean Hills is made up of Peter Lukacs (lead guitar), Daniel Szebeny (keyboards, bass), and Reinder Oldenburger (rhythm guitar), all of whom participate in the band’s songwriting.
Ocean Hills’ sound is reminiscent of bands like Nickelback, Stone Sour, Alter Bridge, and Shinedown, but with more washes of coloration and thrumming vibrancy, primarily because of Zoli’s expressive vocals, injecting the music with rock anthem feeling.
When the guitars growl and elevate, the tune throbs with muscular textures, while Zoli’s haunting voice, potent and urgent, infuses the lyrics with the brio of never capitulating.
Talking about the band’s forthcoming album, Zoli shares, “These songs come from the heart. The songs are great, the musicianship is amazing, the guitar solos are incredible, and the vocals are melodic and hard-hitting. Rock anthem stuff!!!”
The video, directed by Viktor Nagy and Peter Lerch of Mihaszna Films, delivers the stark visual punch of images put together by George Miller, depicting a dystopian landscape ravaged by the elements and humanity’s apathetic indifference. Blazing meteors fall willy-nilly from the sky, punching holes in the landscape, starting fires, and slaying wind turbines. The contrast between the wasted earth and the darkly gleaming presence of the ocean is highlighted when Lukacs, silhouetted against the setting sun, churns out blistering licks on his axe.
Opening on low-slung alt-rock tones, “Death or Liberty” evokes ominous imminence. When the guitars growl and elevate, the tune throbs with muscular textures, while Zoli’s haunting voice, potent and urgent, infuses the lyrics with the brio of never capitulating.
Surging with melodic savors, along with ferocious muscle, “Death or Liberty” reveals the oomph and charisma of commanding alt-rock.
