Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, where she was classically trained in violin beginning at 7-years of age, and started voice lessons at 12, Nova still had a lot to deal with. While growing up, Nova waded through some “heavy shit.” She was ridiculed, told she wasn’t “good enough,” and informed she looked and sang funny. Somehow, she pushed her way through all the sludge, found her confidence, and began recording her material and displaying her artwork.
According to Nova, “’Heavy Hitters’ is about finally letting go about all that negativity and celebrating who you are as a person. No matter what your background is, how you dress, how you look – it’s okay to be exactly who you are. Flaunt it!”
Being who she is paid off big time for Nova. Her first two singles, “More” and “Am I the Only One” accumulated more than 500,000 streams. So if she has too much class to say it, I don’t. I’ll say it for her: in your face, naysayers! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Opening on an infectious pop melody, “Heavy Hitters” rides streaming synth colors and luminous textures. A potent rhythm consisting of crisp percussion and a popping bass line give the tune a buff beat.
Nova’s sylph-like voice carries plenty of sonic oomph, discharging velvety surfacing timbres and sensuous tones. There’s an exotic inflection to her voice that makes is alluring, sumptuously voluptuous, and beguiling, like candy laced with whiskey.
The video, directed by Michaël Croteau, is stylish and cool, with Nova arrayed in killer outfits, one of which is a mirrored jacket that’s posh has hell. The visuals cultivate beau coup panache, eschewing any type of slackness.
