Rhode Island cosmic-pop/dream-pop singer-songwriter Nova One will release a new LP, entitled Lovable, on April 24, via Community Records.
Produced by Bradford Krieger, Chaimes Parker, and Roz Raskin, the album was recorded at Big Nice Studio, Rhode Island. Mixing performed by Krieger and Parker, while mastering was done by Krieger.
Nova One is the musical project of Roz Raskin and friends, according to their Facebook page and website. Raskin formerly played with the band Roz and The Rice Cakes, an art-rock/experimental band.
Lovable comprises 10-tracks, of which only two are now available for listening on Bandcamp. However, if the other eight-tracks display the same tantalizing dream-pop feel of “Violet Dreams” and the title track, Lovable, the album is definitely worth waiting for.
“Violet Dreams” opens on a slow crunching rhythm topped by shimmering guitar colors. When the bassline enters, the tune takes on a creamy, undulating flow. A glistening, gentle breakdown shifts the harmonic flow and then returns to its soft rolling drift.
It’s a remarkably beguiling voice, rich, full, yet elusively spellbinding.
It’s Nova One’s distinctive voice, with its quasi-European-rippling inflections that make the song so alluring and luscious, naively sweet and simultaneously wickedly seductive.
“Go out to the country / Try to play fair / The sex is just wasteful / Forgetting to care / Fresh made violet dreams / Violet dreams / Violet dreaming.”
“Lovable” opens on a melody vaguely reminiscent of Blondie or 4 Non Blondes, exuding savors of alt-rock, as well as tropical tints and washes of new-new-wave. I love the taut pop of the snare on this track, giving the rhythm a jolting surge, as Nova One enthralls, seduces, entices, and entrances with that delicious voice, velvety yet modulated by her nonpareil phrasing.
It’s a remarkably beguiling voice, rich, full, yet elusively spellbinding. I suspect this album will put Nova One on the map in a big, big way.
My suggestion is don’t miss Lovable, and don’t forget the name Nova One, for this artist’s voice, came from the hallowed milieu of the Empyrean.
