NEWLY DISCOVERED DREAM-POP POPSICLES

A recent dive through Bandcamp's 'New Arrivals" in the dream-pop category revealed the following interesting music.

Meeping – Meeper of the Month

Portland, Oregon dream-pop outfit Meeping will release a new LP, Meeper of the Month, on December 6. Only one song is currently available for listening, but if the other eight-tracks are more or less as good, then it should be a grand sonic festival for your ears.

According to their Bandcamp page, “Meeping is a joint project between lead Rachel Zakrasek, bassist Jake Pettit and drummer Daniel Baltazar. Rachel and Jake played together in a previous project before joining up with Daniel to form Meeping in spring 2019.”

Meeping has two prominent definitions: 1) To babble on and on without really saying anything; 2) It’s a way of saying, “Uh oh,” or “Ouch.”

“November” rides gleaming jangly guitars topped by Zakrasek’s easy-to-listen-to voice, delivering lyrics about Cecile’s whereabouts.

“Where are you Cecile? / I saw a wreck on Highway 2 / Cecile, where are you? / I thought of Tony’s hands on you / Your body a little stardom / Leaning on his black Volkswagen / Cecile, where are you? / Where is your mouth, a black cassette that plays / In my car?"

Dunebug – Dunebug

Meet Dunebug, a lo-fi bedroom pop artist from the UK, whose real name is Chi Limpiroj. Dunebug recently (November 3) dropped her self-titled EP, which features five-tracks of scrumptious dream-pop/surf-pop.

The first track, “Change Your Mind,” travels on a sensuously rolling rhythm topped by Limpiroj’s wonderfully gorgeous voice, full of creamy timbres and cashmere textures. From a purely subjective perspective, the best tracks on the EP are “For You” and “Dreaming of Saturn,” although for a fact all five-tracks are excellent, mostly because of their gentle undulating harmonic flows and, of course, Limpiroj’s luscious voice.

Chance Wiesner – More Sauce For The Lady

From Silverton, Oregon, Chance Wiesner dropped his second LP, More Sauce For The Lady, on Halloween. Encompassing 11-tracks, the album blends dream-pop, alt-rock-lite, and suggestions of alt-country on a few of the songs, like “Squid” and “Had To Catch Up.” Don’t, however, let the alt-country reference dissuade you from listening, as there’s zero resemblance to conventional alt-country, which is what makes Wiesner’s music captivating.

My fave on the album is “Digger Boy” because of its smoldering deep tones and raw sonic tones, akin to dark melting chocolate. Second fave is “Alan Alda,” followed by “Had To Catch Up.”
