Canada’s Mimika just dropped a new single, entitled “Civil War,” a song about “holding it together and giving the most perfect version of yourself to the world when on the inside you’re really hurting. The inner and outer you don’t need to always see eye to eye and that’s what ‘Civil War’ focuses on.”

According to Mimika, “Writing ‘Civil War’ was insanely cathartic for me. Sitting down at the piano, it felt like something came over me. The entire song came out in one shot. It was as if my body subconsciously had been waiting to let the feelings out and that day it finally just happened.”
Born in Toronto and raised in Brampton, Mimika fell under the magical spell of music early on, listening to artists such as Celine Dion, Alicia Keys, and Destiny’s Child. When she was 12-years-old, she began writing music. By the time she was 15, she was releasing her own records. As she taught herself to play piano and guitar, she developed a distinctive sound, blending pop and dark electro-pop savors into tasty sonic confections. Right now, she’s working on her debut EP.

“Civil War” opens on oozing synths flowing into a potent trap-lite rhythm driven by a hefty thumping kick-drum and an austere cavernous bassline. Shimmering colors waft overhead, infusing the tune with tantalizing wisps of gleaming accents, topped by filtered vocal harmonies.
Mimika’s voice, nuanced by crystalline hues and aching textures, glides atop the melody, imbuing the lyrics with tumescent rotundity highlighted by smooth-edged angles and delicious surface pressures. Soft, gentle breakdowns, full of swirling gossamer tinctures, suffuse the music with imminent shifts, followed by Mimika’s slowly escalating voice backed by glowing harmonies. The effect is wonderful, saturating the harmonic flow with ineffable flavors.
