Singer-songwriter Michael Burrows recently dropped the music video for “Turn This Love Around,” the second single/title track from the forthcoming EP, recorded in Nashville at Ocean Way Studios, and produced by Frank Myers and Jimmy Nichols.
Based in Melbourne, Australia, Burrows’ music blends elements of country, folk, and rock into harmonically simple songs about complicated topics like family, love, trust, and home. He recently hooked up with Grammy Winner Frank Myers to co-write new material. Myers, of John Michael Montgomery’s “I Swear” fame, also wrote hits like “I’m Already There,” “My Front Porch Looking In,” and “You and I.”
Burrows’ sound is smooth and easy-to-listen-to, carrying suggestions of The Eagles, Wilco, Ron Sexsmith, and The Beatles.
“Turn This Love Around” opens on a crisp drum fill topped by gleaming guitars flowing into a creamy alt-country tune flavored with traces of So-Cal soft rock, à la Poco. A throbbing bassline and tight beat carry the tasty rhythm, as the glimmering guitars project washes of shiny colors. An oozing organ adds drawling hues to the tune, complementing the fluid notes of the piano.

Burrows’ voice, a rich and dulcet tenor, infuses the lyrics with tantalizing nuances of tenderness and devotion. Buttery timbres stream on honeyed textures, giving the vocals gracious expression, as well as cashmere surfaces.
The moving lyrics speak to the heart, as Burrows pleads with his lover to give their romance another shot.
“We can break each other’s hearts we can tear our lives apart / Or together we can change this road we're going down you’re every thought inside my head / This love is far from dead / So come on back to bed and turn this love around turn this love around.”
With “Turn This Love Around,” Michael Burrows really holds it down. This song definitely slaps, with its smooth, elegant flow.
