MAK DROP MARVELOUS ‘DISAPPEAR’ EP
Post-punk/indie-rock/surf-rock outfit MAK, aka “The Mak Brothers Band,” recently dropped their debut EP, entitled Disappear.
Recorded at Gift Horse Studios in Athens, Georgia, Disappear was produced by Matt Martin and Alec Stanley, and mixed and mastered by Matt Martin.
According to the band’s Bandcamp page, “WE ARE MAK, a 4-piece alternative outfit from Tampa Florida. Blending elements of our influences with modern rock and alternative has helped sculpt a unique soundscape for our music to reside within the changing music scene.”
MAK is made up of Ian Makrianes (guitar, vocals), Drake Morgan (guitar), Aidan Makrianes (bass), and Evan Makrianes (drums).
Encompassing five-tracks, the EP starts off with “Sympathy Drive,” opening on jangly almost discordant guitars flowing into a tasty surf-rock tune gleaming with new wave textures topped by dreamy, quixotic vocals from Ian, who delivers alluring coloration and sparkling velvety timbres. I love the searing guitar solo full of beaucoup bristling energy.
“Never Forget” features Ian’s deliciously inflected voice atop glistening washes of lustrous guitars.
“Days go by I can’t forget you / Catching my signals from across the room / And I swear I saw my deceit / In the realization I wanna bow at your feet / What are ya thinkin, what’ve ya heard? / I can’t believe life is controlled by words.”
The title track travels on a crunching shuffle of rhythm made up a popping bassline and munching drum tones. When the chorus kicks in, the tune expands to bright ringing new wave textures. “Where We’ll Go” rides thick surging guitars rife with punk-lite flavors blended with radiant ‘60s rock colors and driving rhythmic dynamics.
“Never Forget” features Ian’s deliciously inflected voice atop glistening washes of lustrous guitars. The melody merges punk, surf-rock, and new wave relishes into a glimmering tune.
“Hopeful” opens on industrial sound effects trolling into a rumbling rhythm layered with brimming new wave swabs of tonality amalgamated with smoothly streaming punk momentum. Imagine The Clash joining forces with The Cure and you’ll have an idea of how delectably laced this track is.
MAK has it going on! They blend scrumptious new wave savors with surf-rock filaments and buttery punk-lite touches. The highlight is Ian’s wonderfully inimitable vocal timbres, both unique and easy-to-listen-to.
