UK electro-pop artist LUNA recently dropped a new EP, Hello Earth. LUNA describes her sound as “Kate Bush with contemporary production.”
A ReBalance Music finalist and proclaimed one of the Top 3 ‘Most Ready’ Artists of 2019, by LIMF Academy, LUNA, aka Kate Hazeldine, blends samples and layered textures akin to Sophie into austere soundscapes with glitchy beats, projecting taut edgy moods rife with cinematic ambiance.
Embracing five-tracks, Hello Earth begins with “Lay Like Stars,” opening on swirling dirge-like synths atop a cavernous thumping rhythm. Distant shimmering vocals inject the lyrics with ghostly timbres of restless colors.
“Night Drive” travels on elegant, ascetic keyboards flowing into shimmering topping hues riding a thick throbbing pulsation. As the music expands and blooms, it assumes shiny, glossy suffusions. LUNA’s evocative tones imbue the lyrics with radiant timbres, gorgeously velvety, yet potent.
“Cold Coffee” features a scrumptiously rounded rhythm, wafting on thick filaments, while whirling twinkling embers infuse the tune with tinsel flecks.
“This car is so quiet, quiet / Without you / The sky is so silent, silent / I just see dark blue / And there I go again... / There I go again/ I’m drowning in my head / With the things I never said / One day it might hurt less.”
“Wind” rides twitching accents rife with strident coloration, as glistening vocal harmonies pervade the harmonics with lustrous surface tones, pale and haunting. “5am” features a dark single throbbing note topped by LUNA’s wonderfully cashmere voice. When the harmonics ramp-up to blushing dream-pop layers, the music glitters with eddying textures accented by a sparkling piano shifting from bright to low-slung tones.
“Cold Coffee” features a scrumptiously rounded rhythm, wafting on thick filaments, while whirling twinkling embers infuse the tune with tinsel flecks. Chock-full of delectable inflections and nuanced timbres, LUNA’s voice suffuses the lyrics with dual strata of dazzling tones. This is my favorite track on the EP because of its spilling flow of pressure and colors.
Hello Earth delivers exquisitely layered textures of interweaving sonic colors, all crowned by the celestial voice of LUNA.
