LAUR ELLE DAZZLES ON ‘WALLFLOWER’
Canadian alt-pop singer-songwriter Laur Elle recently released her new single, “Wallflower,” a track I am assuming will be on her forthcoming debut EP, slated to drop in June, and produced by Robbie Townsend.
Laur shares, “’Wallflower’ is for anyone who has ever felt out of place, and for those struggling to find their voice in a noisy world. I hear you.”
She goes on, adding, “It's funny, as I'm writing this out I realize that I am talking about how I recognize the importance of human connection and how I value it deeply, and here I wrote a song about feeling unable to connect. It’s a work in progress. I moved fourteen times before the age of ten. I was always in pictures, but no one really knew who I was. I kept it that way, so it hurt less when it came time to leave again. It wasn't until recent years that I discovered I still held on to this mentality.”
Neon Music’s Grace Lovejoy accurately sums up “Wallflower,” writing, “Wallflower is the latest single from singer Laur Elle and it’s a song that can only be described as completely breathtaking.”
While the melody is superb, the wow-factor of “Wallflower” is Laur’s voice, chock-full of tantalizing vulnerability and the luxury of emotional commitment to intimacy.
“Wallflower” opens on yummy pop-country flavors expanding to creamy, glowing alt-pop textures infused with hints of dream pop. Laur’s voice, low-slung, melodic, and slightly hushed, yet compellingly delicious, imbues the lyrics with luminous timbres. It’s a distinctive voice, avoiding the run-of-the-mill tonal coloration so prevalent in today’s pop music, making it both alluring and wickedly beguiling.
“My thoughts are louder, than the room that I’m in / They’re growing wilder, why did I come here again?”
Burbling synths, along with deep, almost moaning hues, give the harmonics simultaneous dark and light layers, adding scope and dimension to the song. While the melody is superb, the wow-factor of “Wallflower” is Laur’s voice, chock-full of tantalizing vulnerability and the luxury of emotional commitment to intimacy.
Gorgeously wrought and arranged, “Wallflower” radiates heady surges of nuanced alt-pop savors, all capped by the exquisite voice of Laur Elle. Her imminent EP appears worth time and attention.
