Melodic death metal outfit Katapult recently released the lyric video for “Siege, Destroy, Annihilate,” a song from the band’s forthcoming EP, Fistful of Truth.
Katapult’s sound, probably most accurately described as rooted-in-punk death metal, aka Gothenburg melodic death metal, or melodeath, utilizes detuned guitars and beau coup distortion.
The band, currently based in Basel, Switzerland, is the misbegotten offspring of Florian Moritz (guitar), formerly of Arcturon, and Johan Norström (vocals), formerly of Terrortory. Born on a backstage in Sweden in 2017, the band later added Sven Bürgin (guitar), becoming a trio. Stefan Vidmark (bass) and Stefan Maier (drums) support the rhythm of the tune.
“Siege, Destroy, Annihilate” opens with Norström’s screaming voice atop propelling guitars and rapid-fire drums. Guitar-laden breaks give the tune unique pauses, as the Thor-like crunch of the drums and bass line halt. The solo section is sick, featuring nuclear-level stuttering dynamics riding on Maier’s lightning fast double-bass. This hitter has the fastest feet I’ve heard in a long time.
Essentially, the lyrics are the punk-thrash version of The Three Little Pigs, wherein the pigs have had it with the big, bad wolf. So the pigs get jacked on steroids and meth, and go all Lord of the Flies.
On the chorus, the tempo slows, infusing the harmonics with a tasty shift of pace, rather than just careening ahead at full-bore thrash levels. When the tempo shifts, the guitars go all heavy and dark, adding resonant components and surging energy.

“This is our last resistance / This is all that’s left / You finally broke the floodgates / So if you want us—come and claim us / We are at your doorstep / We are never stopping now / You are in our crosshairs / If we can’t reach you / We will starve you / We’ll tear your walls down / We’ll burn your homes / To the ground.”
“Seige, Destroy, Annihilate” is serious head-banging music, muscular to the point of being hypertrophic. Katapult is a band to keep an eye on.
