JOHN SALAWAY RELEASES WONDERFUL ‘AMERICANA DREAMS’
Celebrated Americana artist John Salaway recently released Americana Dreams, a collection of delectable, original tracks.
Talking about the album, Salaway says, "With every album I make, you'll always hear a touch of the Beatles. With Americana Dreams, though, I wanted to show off my Americana influences, which come mostly from Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Bob Dylan, The Band, and Tom Petty."
A drummer, pianist, and guitarist, Salaway grew up in Florida listening to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Later, he relocated to Nashville, where he established himself as one of the best musicians in Music City, sharing the stage with Peter Frampton, Ben Folds, Anderson East, Zach Williams, and Denny Laine of Moody Blues and Paul McCartney’s Wings fame.
In 2013, he released his debut solo album, The Song in the Air, named the best independent pop/rock album of the year by The Examiner and Yahoo. He followed in 2015 with Down the Road of Life, featuring “A Little Bit Broken,” which hit the top spot on international indie radio charts.
Describing the elevating mood of the songs on Americana Dreams, Salaway shares, "If you hold on to too much regret or negativity, you usually wind up seeing more problems in your life. It's like a chain reaction because negativity attracts more negativity. These songs are about letting that bad stuff go and saying, 'Look, life is beautiful. Let's be thankful for what we have and enjoy our time together.'"
Highlights include “It’s All In Your Mind,” a gorgeous, gentle tune with vocals reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel.
Embracing 10-tracks, the album begins with “It Feels Great,” opening on bright chugging guitars and contagious pulsating rhythm. Salaways’ taut tenor infuses the lyrics with luminous, persuasive textures, as glowing vocal harmonies give the song radiant ‘60’s hues.
Highlights include “It’s All In Your Mind,” a gorgeous, gentle tune with vocals reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel. A sawing violin injects filaments of quixotic coloration, as a running acoustic guitar delivers the rhythm.
“A Little Bit Broken” travels on darker colors, chock-full of swampy, bluesy energy. The flow of this song makes it a particular personal favorite, along with its smart, evocative lyrics: “I’m a little bit broken / But I put myself back together.”
“The Beauty That Surrounds Us” is another scrumptiously beautiful song, riding glistening guitars and soft sweeping strings. A whistling antiphony with a tender violin imbues the harmonics with creamy, dreamy colors and a gliding current.
Americana Dreams dishes out ten wonderful songs, arranged and delivered with flavorsome elegance, making it one of the best Americana albums of the year.
