JANE HOLIDAY RELEASES ‘STILL ILL B SIDES’
Moments ago, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Jane Holiday dropped a new EP, STiLL iLL B SiDES, a collection of tracks merging elements of pop, indie-rock, and soul into tasty musical concoctions.
“I feel like I’ve captured the scale of emotions I’ve felt throughout my work,” Holiday told Wonderland Magazine. “Listening back, the majority of the EP is fairly self-reflective. It feels like a coming-of-age project in some capacity. A response to growing up and being willing to admit my fear of aging, and the struggle that comes with searching for who I am as a person and what my role is as a human on earth.”
Jane Holiday is the brainchild of Raj Jain, who cites influences from a diverse group of artists, including The Rolling Stones, Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Lana Del Rey, and Amy Winehouse. So far this year, he’s achieved syncs on Magnum PI, NBA 2K20, and The Voice, among others.
Formerly known as JANE, he assumed the name Jane Holiday. Other than that, there’s not much gen available on the artist. But his music speaks volumes. He did an interview with L.A. Weekly, providing some insights into his background and creativity.
The result is supercharged harmonics, radiant vocal harmonies, and luxuriously interweaving tonal surfaces.
STiLL iLL B SiDES encompasses four-tracks, starting off with “Sister,” opening on cavernous dark tones atop a potently thumping rhythm, forming a viscous electro-pop melody. Holiday’s voice, seductively smooth and provocative infuses the lyrics with smoldering timbres, as sumptuous glowing vocal harmonies add depth and luminous dimension.
“How Deep Is Your Love” travels on glistening textures simmering with sensual aromas. Hints of soul roll through the tune, giving it a supple undulating flow, steamy and erogenous. Layers of breathy harmonies inject the lyrics with cool suave tones, rippling with amorous nuances.
“Pocket Dial” blends rhythmic muscle akin to dance with shimmering, percolating pop savors. The result is supercharged harmonics, radiant vocal harmonies, and luxuriously interweaving tonal surfaces. I love the lustrous angular timbres suffusing the song’s lavish culmination.
“Get Up (My Generation)” rides a pulsing funky groove capped by bright horns and skiffing guitar riffs. Irresistibly tantalizing, “Get Up” demands listeners get up and move to the groove.
STiLL iLL B SiDES is excellent, full of wide-ranging flavors and intoxicating colors, all crowned by the deliciously alluring voice of Jane Holiday.
Jane Holiday will headline the Moroccan Lounge on Feb 6th - tickets.
