JADE THE MOON LAUNCH ‘AWKWARD’
Toronto alt-pop outfit Jade The Moon released “Awkward” a short time ago.
According to the band, “This anthem is for that person in all of us. ‘Awkward’ is a fun and infectious track about embracing the things that make us special. The track was written in the spirit of celebrating one’s quirky nature. Its upbeat tempo helps translate the message that it's okay to be weird. After all, being unique is so beautiful.”
Jade The Moon will drop their sophomore album, 11:11, fall 2019. Their debut release, entitled Habits and Hindrance, dropped in 2015, and was self-produced. The forthcoming album sees the band working with a trio of producers, Colin Munroe, Adam King, and Nathan Ferraro. The band styles the songs on 11:11 as “musical photographs.”
Jade The Mood is made up of Dani, Benjamin and Jeremy. Dani provides the marvelous vocals, Benjamin plays keyboards and guitar, and Jeremy, obviously, plays some instrument(s), I’m guessing drums or bass, but may be well off the mark, for which I apologize in advance.
Dani’s voice demands special attention. It’s one of those voices with doses of cool sensuality, dollops of elegant class, and deluxe hues riding lavish, lush tones.
“Awkward” opens on slightly austere guitar tones, thrumming with cool resonant colors, followed by the entrance of a throbbing rhythm backed by clapping percussion and a fat potent kick-drum. I love the vibrating synth tone, infusing the tune with cavernous depth, as Dani’s luscious voice, full of swanky, posh textures, delivers the lyrics.
“I’m just a little awkward / I like it here in my head / Pauses and the lines making moments of red / I like my shell AC and a VCR sometimes I shake sometimes I shimmer / I’m a little undone when you get in my head / Let me unwind again / I’m just a little awkward, you’re just a little too cool / You always know where I am / I always get there with you / I’m just a little awkward, you’re just a little too cool / You’re just a little too cool / I’m just a little awkward.”
Dani’s voice demands special attention. It’s one of those voices with doses of cool sensuality, dollops of elegant class, and deluxe hues riding lavish, lush tones. Simply put: it’s nonpareil.
On “Awkward,” Jade The Moon offers up delicious stripped-down harmonics full of massive resonance and an intoxicating rhythmic pulse. Jade The Moon’s sound is so exceptional descriptors fail me.
