Jack White is a Detroit boy. He grew up in the city, and used to upholster furniture there. He met Meg White there, and the White Stripes were born in the Motor City.
More recently, he's been associated with Nashville. He moved there, opened his first Third Man Records there, and ensconced himself in his adopted home. Hey, Nashville is a music city, perhaps even the Music City, so that makes sense for an artist such as White. Recently, White was given the key to a city. You might guess Detroit. You might guess Nashville. However, it was Cincinnati.
White has been a longtime supporter of the old King Records company and also the King Records building.
Yes, Cincinnati, Ohio. Was it because Cincinnati is pretty much at a midway point between Detroit and Nashville? That would be fun, but that's not the case. White has been a longtime supporter of the old King Records company and also the King Records building. The studio was recently bought by the city to save it from demolition, it’s a historic site now. Bootsy Collins, himself a former King artist, was on hand for the ceremony as well.
So, for being a weird dude who fetishizes old music, White now has a key to Cincinnati. That's more than most of us can say.
