Indonesia’s Inis, aka Iin Nur Indah Sahib, recently dropped a sublimely beautiful dream-pop EP, entitled Mood Hacks.
A former member of Ilusia Girls, a group put together by Ahmad Dhani, Inis went solo just prior to appearing on 2013’s X Factor Indonesia, eventually becoming one of the Top 10 finalists. Since then, her cover of Adele’s “Don’t You Remember,” followed by “Mother,” demonstrated her exquisite vocal talent.
Mood Hacks comprises five-tracks, opening with “Mermaid Song,” a sparkling dream-pop tune exuding cool retro-pop flavors. Radiant vocal harmonies suffuse the song with glowing velvety textures, as Inis’ gorgeous voice delivers the lyrics.
“What's the matter with you little girl? / There’s no black cloud up there / What makes rain in your face? / It ain’t rain, it’s a waterfall / It's going Spring after winter / Where the skies are blue / The ocean too / Just like my heart to you.”
Mood Hacks is one of the best EPs of the year, solely because of the marvelous voice of Iin Nur Indah Sahib, aka Inis.
“Hey March” rides a cool, tasty sophisticated dream-pop melody, with hints of jazz and R&B running through it. Reminiscent of Sade’s suave compositions, sensuous and silky smooth, the harmonics envelope listeners in scrumptious layers of surface colors.
“Home” features a warm, trembling melody that expands as thick string flavors emerge in the backdrop. As Inis’ tones swell, creamy harmonies infuse the music with delicious depth and dimension. Inis’ voice is unbelievably evocative, full of cashmere savors and iridescent hues.
“Mother” opens on nursery rhyme tones flowing into glittering synths, followed by Inis’ divine voice. As the melody proceeds, a measured beat enters, along with tantalizing wisps of dynamic pigments.
“An Offer” takes off in a whole new direction – potent bluesy alt-rock full of muscular guitars topped by Inis’ snarling voice. Then the melody swings into a slick R&B number with Inis’ dulcet tones providing crystalline-laced timbres.
Inis totally has it going on! Mood Hacks is one of the best EPs of the year, solely because of the marvelous voice of Iin Nur Indah Sahib, aka Inis. Do not miss this EP, or you will kick yourself.
