Girl Wilde released a new single, entitled “Probably Crying,” just moments ago. It’s the first single from her forthcoming EP.
Wilde explains the song, “"'Probably Crying' is about owning my emotional tendencies and trying to figure out where they come from." She continues to explain that "growing up I was deemed 'overemotional' (I can be). Like everyone else I have my own unique traumas, and working through them has been pretty painful. There was a certain time in my life when I could only muster the energy to cry. My expectations for what life should be didn’t leave room for me to experience reality, and when I did, it almost seemed to hurt worse. I didn’t have the patience, or distance from my own emotions."
Based in L.A., Wilde, aka Alex Barnes, dropped out of high school when she was a sophomore, relocating to L.A. when she turned 18 to focus on her music, which merges savors of alt-rock, pop, and electronic music into a sui generis sound called ‘bubblegum grunge.’
"There was a certain time in my life when I could only muster the energy to cry."
She made a big impact on the music world last year, releasing her debut single, “Bad Side,’ followed by “Nervous Breakdown” and “Fake Louis.” All told, she has collected more than 300,000 streams, along with vast media patronage.
“Probably Crying” opens on gentle emerging colors, as Wilde’s uniquely inflected voice rides overhead. As the harmonics swell and the rhythm takes on energy, the tune surges with layers of sonic texture: gleaming synths, thrumming bass line, and radiant guitars, forming a delicious wall-of-sound on the chorus.
Raw, honest lyrics pervade the song: “If you can’t find me on a Friday night / I’m probably crying / Do you ever wonder if God is even real cuz everything’s so fucked up?”
With “Probably Crying,” Girl Wilde delivers potent alt-pop riding cool rhythmic pulses, and brimming sonic hues, all secured by her patented voice.
