Geneva, Switzerland’s dream-pop band Eugene just released a new EP, entitled Faux Soleils, translated “False Suns.”

There’s a dearth of information available about the band. All I know is that the band is made up of Samy Dib, Alexandra Marcos, and Sylvain Bach. But their music is gloriously sublime.

Faux Soleils comprises four-tracks, opening with “Nox,” riding a chubby bass line backed by spiraling colors from the synths. The melody flows like oozing, viscous Velveeta cheese, undulating on gracious colors and layered sonic washes, drifting as if on a gentle ocean. A serene breakdown composed of gently glimmering synths and Marcos’ divine voice infuses the tune with delicate ambience, prior to the harmonics swelling to celestial heights.

“Ariane” opens on trembling synths and syncopated percussion. Radiant background vocal harmonies slowly emerge, blending with the stuttering colors. I love the stuttering feel of the melody, as the guitar riffs stammer with vibrant tones. Blossoming colors enter as the music takes on resonance and a galloping rhythm, topped by Marcos’ remote soaring voice. For a fact, it’s her scrumptiously evocative tones that make the song so gorgeous.

“Mon Choix,” (my choice) rides a muscular stream of energy, as metallic skiffing guitars and boinging synths add luscious accents. There’s a soft psychedelic feel and mood to the song, as well as hints of fusion jazz flavors, giving it coloration akin to lethal expertise, full of dark resolves. Near the end, the harmonics descend to a soft, tinny guitar attended by Marcos’ distant timbres.

“Mens-moi Encore (lie to me again) travels on layers of sound, one bright and tinkling, the other deeply cavernous, and then flows into a sensuous slightly jazz-flavored tune full of gleaming, wafting colors and a Spaghetti-Western-laced guitar. Marcos’ voice exudes wicked femme fatale tones full of regret and melancholy, as dark, eerie synths suffuse the harmonics.

On Faux Soleils, Eugene delivers delectably erotic dream-pop fused with dripping colors and the smoldering tones of Alexandra Marcos.
