The band's last album, Talking Quietly Of Anything With You, was produced in a proper studio, but Bennett decided to return to the world of bedroom pop, even bringing her bandmates into her home to record. You've got to be pretty keen to stay out of the studio to have somebody playing bass in your kitchen or something along those lines. There is some stuff to like about Free Cake For Every Creature, but it took me a while to realize that…because the name is so bad.

It's a tale as old as time. You give your band a name, and some people are going to dislike it so much they will avoid listening to your music. Even if your sound isn't exemplified in your name, it can be a hard hump to get over. To be fair, you can glean some things from a band's name sometimes. For example, Free Cake For Every Creature sounds like the name for a twee as fuck, quiet and emotional indie band. That would be correct. Would you be surprised to find out that Bennett tends to stylize everything, including her band's name, in all lower case. It's obnoxious. It made me not want to listen to the band.

Then a song popped up on some Spotify playlist and it sounded nice so I checked it out. It was Free Cake For Every Creature. I thought to myself, "Well, I guess I should give this band a chance." So I did, but I still don't like the name and don't like writing it.
