Rebellious, bad boy rock outfit Fat White Family recently unveiled their latest music video offering. It’s called “Feet,” and is from the band’s forthcoming third album, Serfs Up!, on the Domino label.

Serfs Up!, of course, is a not-so-oblique reference to the Beach Boys’ Surf’s Up. Fat White Family has a proclivity, among others, for hinting at other artists. The band’s current lineup goes like this: Lias Kaci Saoudi (lead vocals), Saul Adamczewski (guitar, vocals), Nathan Saoudi (organ), Adam J. Harmer (guitar), Taishi Nagasaka (bass), and Severin Black (drums).

Fat White Family formed in 2011, followed by dropping their debut album, Champagne Holocaust, a year later. They dropped their second album, Songs for Our Mothers, in 2016. The lead single from the sophomore effort was “Whitest Boy on the Beach,” which appeared in the black comedy/drama film T2 Trainspotting.

From the get-go, the band garnered media attention by exemplifying nasty, reprehensible moral standards, like ballyhooing goading and baiting, scatological caprice, sympathy for neo-Nazi dogmas, and the frequent utilization of recreational drugs. The gimmick was delightfully efficacious, with the media hauling the band over the coals at every opportunity.

The music video, seemingly set in WWII, is gory, and full of sordid bloody images, along with a naked figure featured in almost every shot. It’s a bit over-the-top, but hey, it’s Fat White Family.

Billed as a post-punk garage rock band, Fat White Family has, apparently, if “Feet” is any indication, gone electro-pop, saying adios to its former garage rock/post-punk inclinations.

Filaments of alt-country run through the music, giving it an old-timey feel, like something from a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western.

Actually, “Feet” is infectiously colored and a little reminiscent of the dusky sultry hues of Chris Isaak, with touches of Nine Inch Nails and The Talking Heads tossed in for good measure.

Whatever you want to say about Fat White Family, “Feet” is pretty darn good. The rhythm is coolly galvanizing, while the vocals are better than average.
