ERIC HARRISON PREMIERES ‘ADRIAN’
New Jersey-based alternative singer-songwriter Eric Harrison introduces “Adrian,” from his forthcoming fourth album, Gratitude, slated for release in late 2020.
Speaking to the song, Harrison says, “I see in Adrian a bit of myself, a bit of all of us who feel disconnected from a world that won’t slow down. She’s looking for a spark she fears that time may have snuffed out. Like over time she’s sacrificed her essence for those she loved. That spark is still there though, as the lovelorn narrator is trying to tell her. That lovelorn narrator may or may not be me.”
The impending album’s title, Gratitude, mirrors Harrison’s musical resurrection. In 2017, after his collaborator Eric Kvortek passed away, Harrison’s writing and recording almost suffered a similar fate. According to Harrison, “I entered an artistic dead zone after losing Eric. It felt like there was nothing left in the tank.”
There’s an alluring rolling quality to the song, nuanced yet proximate, filling the air with enticing sonic washes.
The creative spark dwindled and flickered, but eventually reappeared, as Harrison began writing again. Reaching out to guitarist and producer Kevin Salem, he recorded Gratitude at Salem’s studio in Woodstock, NY.
“Adrian” opens on a Brit-invasion-new-wave-flavored melody, undulating on jangly guitars supported by a contagiously throbbing rhythm, all accented by the crisply blaring brass of Kick Horns. Harrison’s dulcet voice, smooth and easy-to-listen-to, infuses the lyrics with tantalizing wisps of melancholy and nostalgia, as Adrian searches for her misplaced appetite for life.

“Her finest watercolor in a golden frame hangs in the hallway calling her back to the game / You can find it once again – that empty canvass like a long lost friend.”
“Adrian” delivers deliciously layered harmonics, full of sleek creamy tones, while the rich timbres of Eric Harrison provide intimate coloration.
