EL ALTAR DEL HOLOCAUSTO RELEASE FANTASTIC ‘I T’

From Spain comes El Altar Del Holocausto, a sludge/doom/grindcore band that will blow you away. The band, just moments ago, released their new album, I T.

According to their Facebook page “EL ALTAR DEL HOLOCAUSTO is most probably the hardest working D.I.Y. band I’ve ever seen coming out from Spain. More than a hundred shows (booked mostly by themselves) and three CD releases (done everything by themselves too, from the artwork to releasing and distribution), topped off by an amazing and very particular mixture of Instrumental and Atmospheric Doom Post-Metal.”

El Altar Del Holocausto (the altar of burnt offering), a name taken from Exodus 28:1, is made up of Skybite (bass, synths, effects), Reaper Model (drums, percussion), Reverb Myles (guitars, effects, cult), Weasel Joe (guitars, effects), and Cardenal Shake (sound tech).

In other words, band members are enveloped by a shroud of mystery. When performing live they wear the vestments of Holy Week penitents, and the title of this album, I T, which is their third LP, is a thematic reference to the Holy Spirit, “pneuma” in the Koine Greek, which grammatically is neuter.

“III” rides gently glistening colors, drifting and swaying, and then the guitars mousse up to throbbing subterranean timbres topped by a scintillating, almost ethereal guitar.

The album encompasses seven-tracks, with enumerated titles. According to Mr. Chumbo, aka Diego, of More Fuzz, each track is named after a Bible verse; however, on Bandcamp only the numeric designations are provided.

Speaking subjectively, the best tracks on the album include “I,” which sets the stage, opening on thrumming sonic energy topped by a dark blistering guitar full of viscous depth, followed by flowing into gentle luminous tones, leading to an incandescent guitar solo, both elegant and alluring.

In fact, it’s the amalgamation of muscular post-rock aromas reflecting off graceful doom savors that makes the music so captivating.

“III” rides gently glistening colors, drifting and swaying, and then the guitars mousse up to throbbing subterranean timbres topped by a scintillating, almost ethereal guitar. This is one of my personal favorites on the album because of its rippling brawny layers and lustrous accents.

“VI” rides hefty chugging guitars transitioning to twinkling tones atop finessed, luscious drums, and then goes all chunky with surging colors.

Each track on I T is superb, radiating the brilliance, technique, and elegance of El Altar Del Holocausto. I T is definitely one of the best albums of the year.
