EDDIE COHN RELEASES WICKEDLY ALLURING “FREEDOM” MUSIC VIDEO
Los Angeles-based artist Eddie Cohn is a bit of a Renaissance man: he writes music, does production, DJs, does podcasts, and is a multi-instrumentalist.

Just prior to the end of the year, Eddie released his single/music video “Freedom,” which is also the title track from his upcoming album, slated to release this summer. Directed by Leslie Andrew Ridings, the video recalls the strange sensations engendered by the Australian flick, District 9, with its dreamlike/nightmarish depiction of immigration policies.
Talking about “Freedom’s” inspiration, Eddie told XS Noize, “In the past, I was drawn to write about life and death and the mystery and randomness of life but I couldn’t resist the temptation to write about the strange look of the world thanks to Covid and the lockdown. I think this is unlike anything I could have ever imagined. I would like to think the intentions of politicians and the people running the world are for the betterment of society, but it’s sometimes hard to trust they have our best interests"

He goes on to add, "Do they really know what they’re doing? What’s the psychological and cultural impact of a generation that is addicted to technology and when you couple that with masks, social distance, and forced lockdowns, what is the effect from all of that? Does anyone have any idea what the ramifications will be from these decisions? Do we get to make our own decisions anymore? A lot here to think about, but I tried to capture some of these themes in the song and video.”
“Freedom” opens on a percolating/rumbling percussion flowing into a melody reminiscent of Peter Gabriel. There’s a raw edginess to the sonic textures of “Freedom,” emphasizing the slightly rasping timbres of Eddie’s evocative voice, rife with significant intensity.
