Commenting on the forthcoming album, the band says, “We think this Apocalypse & Chill will surprise our listeners. It is heavy with new influences and we’re really curious to find out how our audience will respond to that.”

Made up Martijn Westerholt (keyboards), Charlotte Wessels (vocals), Joey Marin de Boer (drums), Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass), and Timo Somers (guitar), DELAIN burst onto the heavy metal scene back in 2006, releasing their debut album, Lucidity, followed by a series of albums. In 2016, they released Moonbathers, which hit the Top 20 in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

DELAIN has headlined throughout the world, as well as shared the stage with Sabaton and Nightwish, along with performing at festivals – Wacken Open Air and Download Festival.

Choir-like vocal harmonies, mystical and sweeping, imbue the tune with luminous resonant surface colors.

Apocalypse & Chill encompasses 13-tracks, including two tracks that have already been released, “One Second” and “Burning Bridges.”

“Burning Bridges” dropped in September, and features a dazzling symphonic flow riding heavy guitars and potent drums. Wessel’s voice, of course, is what establishes DELAIN’s distinctive sound, along with van der Oije’s harsh growling tones, infusing the lyrics with gruff vocal textures. Choir-like vocal harmonies, mystical and sweeping, imbue the tune with luminous resonant surface colors.

“One Second” dropped in the middle of November, and opens on shimmering rococo tones flowing into a rumbling assertive melody full of hefty guitar riffs and finessed drumming. An oozing breakdown leads to trembling sonic effusions underscored by throbbing percussion, and then segues to a gorgeous searing guitar solo. The translucent paramount timbre streams atop the harmonics, adding a glorious wash of color.

DELAIN has it going on! If the other 11-tracks on Apocalypse & Chill are half as good as “Burning Bridges” and “One Second,” then yowza – listeners are in for an aural treat.
