Alt-pop keyboardist and songwriter Daniel Coloprisco recently released a new two-track EP, entitled Winter’s Song, featuring the vocal talents of Jes Hudak.
Based in New Jersey, Coloprisco started his musical career playing everything from prog-rock to punk, and then shifted gears, pursuing a different direction – a career in Information Technology. Even though he had always planned on returning to music, circumstances barred his path.
Coloprisco explains, “Marriage, divorce, social and family obligations, then another divorce followed by debilitating anxiety. Collectively, all of these obstacles became insurmountable, at least for a time.”
In the end, his creative muse proved irresistible. Rediscovering his creativity, he began by publishing a photography book, crafting comedy videos, and writing comedy scripts. Then it was time for new music, notarized by the release of Winter’s Song.
Hooking up with Hudak, the runner-up on Bravo TV’s Platinum Hit, whose single “Different Worlds” accumulated one million streams on Spotify, Coloprisco delivers lush, gorgeous music revolving around his personal experiences.
The harmonic tide of the piano exudes tender colors infused with lingering hues of melancholy, imbuing the music with tantalizing wisps of recollection.
The EP begins with the title track, opening on an elegant piano, followed by the entry of Hudak’s warm, crystalline voice. The harmonic tide of the piano exudes tender colors infused with lingering hues of melancholy, imbuing the music with tantalizing wisps of recollection. There’s an austere captivating grace to Hudak’s voice, as she delivers the moving lyrics.
According to Coloprisco, “’Winter's Song’ is autobiographical, sad but hopeful, and leaves the listener speculating. It describes my relationship with my first fiancée. In the lyrics, ‘winter’s song’ and ‘winter’s dream’ refer to reminiscences of our connection and to our hopes. When the bond grew excessively possessive, we parted ways. This is what ‘the tighter you're held, the more you slip away’ describes. The section that recounts the anticipation of ‘standing outside our door’ implies being on the precipice of a second go 'round of the relationship.”
An instrumental piece, “A Touch of Feeling” rides a delicate piano rife with pensive coloration. As the harmonics progress, the piano ripples and swells with a powerful emotional frisson, quixotic and elusively appealing.
Winter’s Song brims with beautiful textures and devout surface colors complemented by Jes Hudak’s alluring affluent voice.
