CURB APPEAL DROP POTENT ‘COMO’
Meet Curb Appeal, an alt-rock/pop-punk trio from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who recently dropped their EP, como.
Made up of Matt Hanna (guitar), Alex Najafalipour (drums), and Adrian Parenteau (bass), Curb Appeal is another of the treasures I discovered on Bandcamp by trolling through beau coup new arrivals. This band chucks out yummy, lit music.
With four-tracks, all of which are excellent, como begins with “New To This,” opening on a stuttering, throbbing bass line flowing into a gleaming guitar and rumbling drums. The measured beat rolls out waves of skintight flavors gathering momentum. Naj’s drums inject the tune with delicious rolling energy as the bass pops with gusto. A scorching fuzzy guitar solo packs sonic heft, launching the harmonics up to Factor Five levels.
On “Save Me,” Naj demonstrates his fabulous ability on the drums, imbuing the harmonics with not only ferocious percussive accents, but impressive syncopated beats of flashing intensity.
“Crazy Old Lady” rides Hanna’s shimmering guitar and a splendid bass line, as Naj wallops the hell out of the skins. I love the running, sing-song accent of the guitar. Skater-punk-infused vocals sound just right, full of nonchalant, glossy washes of tones. Three scrumptious breakdowns feature first the bass, then the guitar, then the drums, adding tasty shifts of emphasis.
“Stuck” is vaguely reminiscent of Fall Out Boy (FOB) prior to their move to Vegas-like productions of Ramada Inn lounge music. Where FOB fails, Curb Appeal succeeds with surging luminous colors and stellar drumming, along with massive punch.
On “Save Me,” Naj demonstrates his fabulous ability on the drums, imbuing the harmonics with not only ferocious percussive accents, but impressive syncopated beats of flashing intensity. This guy’s talent knocks me out. “Save Me” is my favorite track on the EP, because of its plush polished hues and harmonic oomph. Knotted, nasal-flavored vocals give the lyrics a declarative mood.
All I can say is wow! Curb Appeal lays it down with bite combined with dynamic pizzazz and superb, chewy vocal intonations.
