Pop-punk outfit Coastlines released two excellent tracks during 2019: “Trust Me, I’ve Been There” and “Finishing Line.”
Formed in 2019, Coastlines is made up of Adam Kitching (vocals, bass), Anth Bell (drums), Jason Bell (vocals, guitar), and Lee Ball (guitar). According to their Spotify page, the band is “a pop-punk / alternative band from North East England writing music influenced by the pop-punk of their youth (New Found Glory, blink-182, Sum 41, A Day To Remember) with their own modern twist.”
Their sound revolves around “keeping the pace up, positivity high and throwing in big riffs, catchy hooks and meaningful lyrics, they want to remind you to keep your head up and have fun!”
Bell’s drums imbue the tune with a sharp finessed punch, especially on the breakdown crowned by a radiant chorus of voices.
The band’s FB page indicates they are working on their debut EP. No mention of the EP’s title or number of tracks. The above information pretty much sums up all the gen extant on the band.
“Trust Me, I’ve Been There” opens on tight brawny guitars topping a crunching rhythm. Flexible, tasty vocals infuse the lyrics with optimistic tones, as the resonant guitars grind and growl, exuding deep muscle and whetting colors. Bell’s drums imbue the tune with a sharp finessed punch, especially on the breakdown crowned by a radiant chorus of voices.
The intro to “Finishing Line” travels on swirling guitars and high-pitched vocals flowing into bright searing guitars riding on a potently throbbing rhythm, as deliciously strident vocals inject the lyrics with intense passion. I love the guitar solo on this track, projecting washes of gleaming hues rather than the standard blistering licks. Then the harmonics shift gears, seguing into dirty rasping guitars accented by sparkling glosses, leading to wall-of-sound coloration with incandescent oomph.
Coastlines have it going on, pushing out hefty pop-punk impetus, vocals emanating stylish flair, and infectious rhythms. Now where’s the EP?
