Burn The Ballroom

Originally found in Washington, D.C. by Adriel Genet (guitar, vocals), Burn The Ballroom assumed full configuration in 2014, adding Jack Ivins (drums), Tuomas Easton (keyboards), and Josh Finks (bass), followed by releasing their EP, Melodies for the Outsiders, followed by becoming the first rock band to partner with the U.S. State Department’s American Music Abroad initiative to promote modern music around the world.

Two singles from Melodies for the Outsiders went on to become hits. “Whisper” amassed more than 1 million streams and achieved ‘cult’ status on YouTube, while “Crazy,” their acoustic pop song, attracted vast attention.

Featured in prestigious publications such as The DC City Paper, The Deli Magazine, Pop Vulture, Arab News, Tunisian National Media, Egyptian National Media, Russian Far East Media, and Russian European Media, Burn The Ballroom has performed around the world, including Western Europe, Russia, North Africa, West Africa, The Middle East, Southeast Asia, Atlanta, NYC, and Seattle, as well as appearing at the Vans Warped Tour and SXSW.

With over 8 million streams total, on Dark Stars & Velvet Skies, Burn The Ballroom decided to handle their own production, resulting in “Still” being named song of the week by Nashville’s 102.9 Rock Radio.

Brimming with pop-punk and alt-rock layers of melodic harmonies, the song galvanizes with ascending coloration.

Encompassing six tracks, the EP starts off with “The Long Way Down,” opening on dazzling vocals flowing into heavy surging guitars riding a muscular, finessed rhythm as Adriel’s nonpareil voice imbues the lyrics with compelling timbres.

Highlights include “Still,” rolling out on electrifying polished guitars supported by a Jovian, driving rhythm, and radiant vocal harmonies. Adriel’s vocals give the lyrics soaring, burning savors of passion.

“We were colors, we were killers / We were singers of night (And we were golden) / Dark stars on a velvet summer sky (Do you think about it, do you think).”

The intro to “Calm Down,” reminiscent of Queen’s operatic overtures, shifts gears as snarling, punk-like guitars kick the tune into overdrive. Brimming with pop-punk and alt-rock layers of melodic harmonies, the song galvanizes with ascending coloration.

A personal favorite, “Fall With Me” rides swirling, oscillating colors segueing into a thrumming melody conjuring up allusions to The Killers. On this track, Adriel displays the full range and complexity of his deluxe voice, nuanced and oh so expressive and alluring.

At once sumptuous and pulsating with sonic muscle, Dark Stars & Velvet Skies delivers swanky rock buffed to a spellbinding sheen.
