BLEU STROUD STRUTS HER TALENT ON 'TRAIN WRECK'
Meet the new boss of folk-pop/country pop. Taylor Swift needs to start looking over her shoulder because Bleu Stroud has arrived to supplant her. And no, the new boss isn’t the same as the old boss. The new boss is much, much better: her voice is more affluent and her songwriting is out of this world.
Bleu Stroud just released her second single, “Train Wreck,” which is featured in the forthcoming film, Trading Paint, from AMBI/Paradox Studios, releasing March 22.
From So-Cal, Stroud exploded onto the music scene with her first single, “Blue Town,” which showcased the silky tones and captivating surfaces of her yummy voice. It’s one of those rare, superior voices, inimitable and completely sui generis, that project delicious sonic elegance, as well as an ineffable charisma.
At the age of eight, Stroud began teaching herself to play the guitar. Exclusive of any type of formal lessons, she conquered the intricacies of the 12-string guitar, banjo, piano, and ukulele. Meanwhile, her songwriting skills grew exponentially, synthesizing creamy melodicism with impressive lyricism.
It’s one of those rare, superior voices, inimitable and completely sui generis, that project delicious sonic elegance, as well as an ineffable charisma.
Presently working on her debut album with producer Mark Dutton, Stroud’s music blends ingredients from pop, country, and folk into an exquisitely polished sound, gleaming with washes of color, and turns of phrase.
“Train Wreck” opens on plucking strings and a thumping kick drum, topped by Stroud’s wickedly alluring tones. Emerging guitar accents infuse the tune with tinsel colors, as the melody slows, drifting, and then ramps up to a surging country-pop-flavored melody riding shimmering guitars. An infectious rhythm, made up of an aching bass line and taut percussion pushes the tune forward with brawny energy.
The lyrics, vulnerable and urgent, relate a True Romance-like tale of the irrationality and excitement of love.
“I’ve been breaking down / Ever since you came around / And the, the air we breathe / Oh it, it’s suffocating me / Cause the both of us together is like a train wreck / But how can I ever stop loving this / Cause your crazy and I’m insane / And we finally got it right.”
“Train Wreck” is off-the-chain superb, demonstrating not only Bleu Stroud’s mesmerizing voice, but her incomparable songwriting flair.
