BIG TIME GRAIN COMPANY RELEASE ‘SUNDAY MORNING’
Kansas City’s country-Americana outfit Big Time Grain Company just released a new single, called “Sunday Morning, a song about the sweet joy of coming after time on the road. This song is super-duper excellent!
Made up of the Bourquin brothers, Chad (guitar) and Bret (lead vocals, bass), Big Time Grain Company’s formation traveled a winding road. After high school and college, Bret played with artists such as Doug Kershaw, and Daniel and Ray. While in Texas, he began writing original songs, followed by singing in a variety of bands. On his part, Chad was touring with a rock band, performing almost nightly for five years. When he finally got home, he started playing in Bret’s band, called LipRiddle. Then Bret left, and Chad became LipRiddle’s frontman.
LipRiddle was a rock band, and Chad was beginning to lean toward country. He had to make a choice.
Chad says, “My own decision to return to country, and ultimately start this new band with Bret, happened when the material I was writing for the rock band I was in didn’t fit the group’s sound. I finally admitted, with my wife’s encouragement, that my music had a country flair. Country is about storytelling, and that’s a comfortable place for me as an artist.”
Bret’s scrumptious baritone gives the tune captivating cavernous resonance, followed by Chad’s delightful nasal tenor. The combination of the two flavors is beguiling.
Thus Big Time Grain Company was born. Since then, Big Time Grain Company’s popularity has skyrocketed and shows no signs of slowing down. The band performs at festivals frequently, and has toured in Iowa, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio, Nebraska, and Colorado. In 2018, they dropped their 401k EP to vast praise.
“Sunday Morning” opens on potently shimmering guitars full of intoxicating country flavors reminiscent of the heady days of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard, along with the tasty harmonic flow of George Strait. A deliciously drawling steel guitar infuses the tune with wistful colors, as the organ brays and curling accents from the guitars inject eddying tones.

All I can say is, “Wow!” “Sunday Morning” is grand old-school country music with shades of outlaw country. Big Time Grain Company is fabulous.
