Bathroom of the Future - Words I Had

Detroit pop-punk outfit Bathroom of the Future just dropped a new album, called Words I Had, featuring 11-tracks of sizzling music.

Made up of Tim (vocals, guitar), Sean (vocals, bass), and James (drums), the Bathroom of the Future formed in 2014. The band describes their sound, “Sad-ass nerd guy Midwestern pop-punk/prehistoric emo for anybody who's had feelings for someone but also loves Dragon Ball Z.” And then goes on to add, “Too emo for the punks, too punk for the emos, and too many of our songs wind up being about anime and video games.”

The album starts off with “Star Wars 2,” opening with muted guitars, followed by a rolling snare flowing into a powerful pop-punk melody topped by delicious slightly whiny vocals. Featuring a brawny rumbling rhythm component, the tune rolls out with beau coup energy, with tight chuffing breakdowns. A blazing guitar solo kicks the harmonics up to incandescent levels.

“A Spooky Weekend” is my favorite track on the album because of its muscular intro and muscle-bound guitar riffs, thick and hefty, crowned by Tim’s sarcastic tones.

“Maze of Noise” opens on skintight chugging guitars supported by really potent drums that give the tune a slap, pop, band impetus. There’s a deep resonant thrumming depth to the harmonics on this track, infusing the melody with wicked depth. I love the simple but searing guitar solo, as Tim doesn’t try to demonstrate every lick he knows in fifteen seconds, attesting to the validity of less is more.

“Idiot’s Loop” is slightly reminiscent of Fall Out Boy, back when FOB was actually good. This track rides an off-kilter rhythm full of muscular pulses and grinding guitars. “A Spooky Weekend” is my favorite track on the album because of its muscular intro and muscle-bound guitar riffs, thick and hefty, crowned by Tim’s sarcastic tones. Super-tight drums give this song beau coup oomph.

Bathroom of the Future really knows how to lay it down, delivering contagious rhythms, tight harmonics, and buff guitar flavors.
