Bathroom Community - Arrhythmia

Just moments ago, emo-pop-punk outfit Bathroom Community released a new EP, entitled Arrhythmia. A Studio 110 production, the EP was edited and mixed by Shadd Sanville, and mastered by Azimuth Mastering.

Since there’s a dearth of gen on the Bandcamp page for the EP, I went to the band’s last EP, called Life Checks, to glean info about the lineup, which two years ago included Dylan Bowie (vocals, guitar), Brett Becks (guitar), Andrew Kolich (bass), and Nicholas Platias (drums).

With six-tracks, Arrhythmia begins with “IDK…Something About A Boat,” opening on low-slung gleaming guitars flowing into a rumbling rhythm topped by stuttering guitars, as Bowie’s soaring vocals mount over the harmonics on elongated tones. A blistering guitar solo takes over with wobbling dynamics, giving the tune a kaleidoscopic feel.

What makes Bathroom Community standout is Bowie’s moody voice, with its nuanced soaring passion, and the pop-punk energy blended with emo-feely guitars.

Highlights include “Ruining A Good Moment,” featuring thick shimmering guitars shifting to vertical chugging tones, followed by Bowie’s distinctive voice, which soon assumes rough rasping colors. “Rose Colored Glasses,” probably the best track on the EP, delivers a tasty flow of hefty glistening guitars, staggering and grinding with dark colors. I love the drums on this track, rife with tight pops and finessed fills, along with ghost beats.

“These Thoughts I Have” features stridently glossy guitars riding a spinning-back-and-forth rhythm. Heavy growls from the guitars, accented by metallic sparks, give the tune a viscous wall-of-sound muscularity.

“Badgers Are Dangerous” commences on a cool drum fill/shuffle leading into tightly luminous guitars. Platias' drumming really makes this song work, injecting oblique beats and scrumdillyicious fills.

What makes Bathroom Community standout is Bowie’s moody voice, with its nuanced soaring passion, and the pop-punk energy blended with emo-feely guitars. Keep an eye on this band, they might hit it big. And definitely give Arrhythmia a listen.
