Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Arch Of Love debuted their single “Night Walk” a short time ago. A blend of new wave elements and dream-pop, “Night Walk” is impressive.
The single was engineered, mixed, and co-produced by Jeff Zeigler and Chris Schackerman. Dave Downham handled the mastering.
Arch Of Love is made up of Chelsea Brennan, who handles vocals and synths, and Chris Schackerman on guitar and drum programming. Prior to Arch Of Love, Schackerman was a touring member of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. The track features Kyle Press on a deliciously-flavored saxophone.
This is another band discovered during one of my frequent exploratory plunges through Bandcamp’s ‘New Arrivals.’ And although I was unable to dig up much information on the band, the enigmatic aura this lends to their music is stimulating, giving the track a pregnant mysterious trait.
Shimmering crystalline guitar colors fill the tune with coruscating washes, as Brennan’s luscious dreamy tones glide effortlessly atop the harmonic layers.
“Night Walk” opens on a stream of gleaming synth tones surging into a compelling rhythm composed of a plump seductive bass line and a tastily loose, sifting sand pop from the snare drum. Shimmering crystalline guitar colors fill the tune with coruscating washes, as Brennan’s luscious dreamy tones glide effortlessly atop the harmonic layers.
I love the soft lustrous glow of the bridge, infusing the tune with creamy kaleidoscopic patterns, as well as glossy textures. The feel and mood of the song conjures up visions of angelic beings dancing across the heavens with rapturous abandon. During the soft, glimmering breakdown near the end of the track, Press’ saxophone delivers scrumptious warbling hues, like the gossamer wings of a butterfly.
The lyrics evoke the luminous dust of introspective ruminations.
“Walked along the night / To take me apart / Separate my head and my heart / Mess around with dreams / Create the same scene / Questions come of what I will be / Told of all the things / I’ll see in time / Question promises / Of what’s mine.”
“Night Walk” shines with iridescent colors and glossy skimming sprays of quixotic mist, along with Chelsea Brennan’s spellbinding voice.
