Straight out of Lehighton, Pennsylvania comes alt-rock outfit Another Day Dawns, who just released the video for “Psycho,” a track off their forthcoming EP, A Different Life, which drops February 26.
Formed in 2010, Another Day Dawns is the brainchild of Nick McGeehan (drums) and Tyler Ritter (guitar). Adding front man Dakota Sean, the trio abandoned playing covers and became a full-bore original band. Right from the get-go they made an impact, sharing the stage with Fuel, Avatar, Sammy Hagar, Godsmack, Puddle of Mud, Bad Flower, Trapt, Five Finger Death Punch, Daughtry, and Buckcherry.
In 2017, the band added Livi Dillon on bass, and signed with M7 Booking Agency. Performing non-stop at venues like the Sands Event Centeer, PennsPeak, Musikfest Main Stage, Sherman Theatre, Montage Mountain, and Wally’s, Another Day Dawns has developed a vast following, especially in the Northeast. And for good reason. They kick-ass.

“Psycho” opens with oozing, eerie sound effects flowing into a hard-hitting rock melody reminiscent of Buckcherry, but with more resonance and tighter musicianship. The rhythm, potent and hecka-buff, rides the thump of McGeehan’s stellar drumming and Dillon’s cavernous bass line. Ritter’s guitar really sets the harmonic foundation, full of snarling fuzzed-out colors and beau coup oomph.
I love the extension of the drums on this track, primarily because McGeehan doesn’t hold back, hitting with authority, using his skins as another instrument. In other words, he doesn’t just keep the beat and try to dazzle listeners with his breakneck double-bass pedals. He actually ‘plays’ the drums, inserting energy and percussive pressure. Definitely one of the better drummers around.
Dakota Sean’s voice is voluptuous and simultaneously raw, infusing the lyrics with tantalizing rasping timbres and wicked intensity. He utilizes the range and inflection of his voice to inject sonic dynamics rather than simply screaming. This is an excellent voice, embracing visceral tones as well as tasty melodicism.
On “Psycho,” Another Day Dawns punches it out, holds it down, and rips up the atmosphere with muscular music. I, for one, will be checking out the new EP, A Different Life.
