ALEXINA REVEALS VISUALS FOR ‘LONDON’

Pop artist Alexina dropped a new single/music video just moments ago, called “London,” a post-breakup anthem about unwanted, yet oh so prevalent memories of one’s former paramour and certain locations. The track is from her forthcoming EP, Partying On My Own, slated to drop in September.

She told Jerry Doby of The Hype Magazine, “The EP chronicles various stages of a break-up and this track was the first, gut-wrenching song I wrote for the mini-album. It was written as a piano ballad but produced into a late-night drive-time, two-fingers-up pop song. The whole EP is a bit like that – a bunch of sad songs with inherently bold, anthemic sounds to hopefully empower the listeners who may find themselves in the same sad situation.”

Explaining how she spends her time, she said, “When I’m not at Kite Yard, I’m either really social and out drinking, going to shows, talking, eating at friends’ houses and dancing or I’m a total recluse, spending hours researching weird articles and books. I love learning. I read and write every day. I love Scotland – I go home a lot, it’s very much my therapy. I’ll do three or four really manic weeks in London writing then go back to the countryside and go swimming or climb a hill and play the piano.”

With “London,” Alexina delivers one of the year’s best pop songs so far, full of intoxicating sonic dynamics and her inimitably lush voice.

Born in London, but raised in the remoteness of south Scotland, Alexina borrowed her name from a real-life female Scottish warrior. In school, she played in bands and is passionate about literature, including Orwell, Vonnegut, Laurie Lee, and Roald Dahl.

She’s working on a series of children’s books inspired by her dog, which is spoiled rotten, as well as scoring films for Margot Robbie and Sylvester Stallone. If that’s not enough, she’s also working with composer Ilan Ishkeri on Sky TV.

“London” opens on throbbing colors, followed by the entry of Alexina’s deliciously inflected voice, one of those sui generis voices full of silky nuances and potent surface flavors. When the yummy pop melody ramps up, the tune takes on gleaming, soaring textures, infusing the music with gorgeous harmonic layers.

The video, edgy and totally over-the-top, shows Alexina tooling around the city at night, visiting all the places she and her former lover used to frequent. Rather than avoiding them and being content with burning photos, she drenches the city in gas. In the end, she watches as London burns to the ground.
