Ça Tire! Vol. 5
Former Canadian punk radio show Ça tire! recently dropped a new compilation of music from Canada and France – 20-tracks of raw high-octane punk, including bands like The Speakeasy, Death By Dingo, The Lookout, Dirty Cheetah, and Havenhurst. It’s entitled Ça tire! Vol. 5.

Entry points on the album include the first track, “Dioxide,” by Dirty Cheetah, which opens on grinding, snarling guitars flowing into a hard-charging melody full of bad-ass punk attitude riding raw textures and a pummeling beat. A down-and-dirty searing guitar solo ramps the song up with incandescent energy.
“Want It Don’t Want” rides growling primal guitars atop rumbling drums and a stellar vibrating bass line. The vocalist, Martha, makes this song work, laying down vicious tones rife with actinic timbres and lots of riot grrrl brashness. Although it’s in French, and I can’t understand the lyrics at all, Ceci Dit,’s “Dechire” grabbed me by the hairs on the back of the neck. The song is simple, yet hella-visceral with grand vocal harmonies, which is a little unusual in punk. This track is grungy and forceful.
“Comme une balle” might be my favorite track on the compilation.
The Speakeasy locks in tight on “Death Sentence,” spilling out potent hardcore punk with churning guitars and almost blast-beat drums. “Choices,” from Watch It Burn opens on shimmering guitars reflecting alt-pop-like flavors, followed by ragged, rasping vocals exuding bloody chaffing colors. A glittering breakdown leads into moussed up harmonics atop a crunching snare, as “whoa-oh-oh” harmonies fill the backdrop.
“My Disease,” from Oldest Memories blends punk elements with melodic metalcore flavors, infusing this track with powerfully thrumming energy, raging vocals, and surging nuclear sonic momentum. I love the rumble of the drums crowned by a scorching guitar.
“Comme une balle” might be my favorite track on the compilation. Performed by Mauvaise Frequence, the flow and feel of the harmonics is what sets it apart, traveling on compact guitars full of metallic sheens and a bass line that’s out-of-this-world.
Ça Tire! Vol. 5 delivers the goods, transporting visceral rock muscle from bands you may never have heard of, but who deserve attention.
