Sailorrats - #2 The Sails Are Set
From Freiburg, Germany comes galvanizing street-punk outfit Sailorrats, who just a few days ago released #2 The Sails Are Set, a six-track EP, via Klabautermann Records.

This band rocks! The lyrics are in German, so unless you “Deutsch Sprechen” you won’t be able to understand. But the music is outstanding and the vocalist/guitarist, Steffie, has one of those voices that worms its way into your ears. The other two members of the trio are Meli (vocals, bass), and Daniel (drums).
According to their FB page, “They came from sunny Freiburg to sail around the world with their fresh pop-rock on board and to ensure a good mood in the ports visited - the Sailorrats. With wit and charm, the 3-member crew takes a close look at both themselves and societal virtues and invites all water and landlubbers to dance the night away with them on the heads of the house tigers and kitties.”
The EP begins with “Blutsauger,” which is “Bloodsucker” in English, opening on pulsing synths flowing into a gleaming pop-rock wall-of-sound melody. I love the vocals, reminiscent of Debbie Harry of PEDs, velvety yet edged with cool cutting timbres. On the chorus, the guitar shudders with blistering running flavors and beaucoup muscle.
The last track, “Love Me, Hate Me,” delivers thick waves of surging guitars topped by delicious siren-like vocals, beguiling and a bit risky.
“Perfektion” travels on low-slung alt-rock and pop-punk flavors, with platinum, almost crystalline vocals. “Endlosschleifen,” which translates to “Infinite Loops,” features a luminous intro rolling into tough, brawling guitars taking on elongated stutters, while ramping up to granular dirtiness on the chorus. Grandly deluxe harmonies give the tune smoldering layers of radiance.
“Ache” (Ash) opens on industrial effects leading into metalcore-flavored guitars, searing and progressive, and then settles into a quasi-alt-rock-alt-metal-laced melody. I like this track, a lot, especially the erotic urgency of the vocals.
The last track, “Love Me, Hate Me,” delivers thick waves of surging guitars topped by delicious siren-like vocals, beguiling and a bit risky.
The Sailorrats have it going on! This band is signed to Klabautermann Records but should be on a major label because of their wonderful vocals.
